CC Learning and Andy Murray – the former lead author of the PRINCE2 2009 manual - have jointly developed PRINCE2 2009 course materials for pay-as-you-go, annual or one-off licensing.
CC Learning is a trading name of CC Consulting Australia Pty Ltd. CC Learning is an Accredited Training Organisation for PRINCE2. CC Learning and its Training Navigator brand also sell programme, project and change management course places in Europe, Australia and New Zealand.
Andy Murray is a Director of Outperform UK Ltd. Andy Murray has served as the lead author of the new PRINCE2 2009 manual.
Course materials description
The course materials comprise of pre course reading, slides, two workbooks and trainer notes. The delegate workbooks are stand alone study guides and not just a set of printed slides, the slides represent key points of the content, using graphics and text from the workbook which is more detailed and presented in a more readable format. The text includes clear engaging explanations, with boxed exercises. Rather than a single case study or scenario throughout the materials there are a variety of case studies representing different industries and sectors and projects at different stages in their life cycle. Each example includes a number of PRINCE2 documents and demonstrates the syllabus topic concept at hand. Each chapter covers a single topic and can be re arranged by the training organisation to be delivered in any order. There are exercises for each topic that can be done in class with additional activities to complete as homework. The materials are colourful (though printable in single colour) and engaging.
For APMG accredited organisations and affiliates the course material includes the sample Foundation and Practitioner examinations, updated regularly (every 3 to 6 months).

Will we lose the unique selling point of having our own materials?
Using CC Learning materials does not mean that you cannot use them along side your own materials. While the core of your delivery may be using CC Learning slides and workbooks the handouts, posters, scenarios and exercises, these could be complemented with your own to be unique to your course. As this material is white labelled no one needs to know that you license it from CC Learning. In fact the degree of customisation of the materials can be significant to the point that they will in fact be unique to you!
- ^ Top
But we run our courses in a unique format!
The materials are being created in a modular form, so that you can re-arrange the format as you wish and the exercises are optional. Foundation schedules will be easily modified to fit 2, 3, 4 or 5-day formats and Practitioner only courses will be fine for conversion, 2, 3 or 4 day courses. The combination Foundation with Practitioner could be run in the usual 5-day format as well as any combination of the above. You can even modify the course material to develop your own workshops or events.

Why should I use your materials?
- We do all the development work - giving you time to work on building your business
- With the increase in methods and training efforts should be used to manage all the products in your portfolio – thereby reducing your dependence on PRINCE2
- Ready tailored case studies per region; if you have a case study that you would like to include this can be added as a small additional fee to set up, and no on-going fee
- The arrangement with Andy Murray - the lead author of PRINCE2, is exclusive
- We deal with the APMG for sample exam and syllabus updates
- We offer to customise all the materials so that they appear to be your own
- Our materials are cost effective and professional
- We bear the risk (effort and cost) that the APMG or TSO or OGC will change the sample exams, syllabus, printed manual or other key aspects (such as IPR requirements)
- You can spread costs over your courses rather than paying all up front with the pay-as-you-go licensing option.

I have a different course format - how will the workbooks cater for this?
We recognise that some providers offer a different number of days for some courses, run them on weekends, or are spit in other ways. The workbooks can be assembled on a syllabus topic by topic basis in the order that you would prefer.

What case studies do you offer?
Here we excel! We don't give you one but six case studies, to keep people interested and to cater for people from a variety of industries! They are focused on a 'set' of management products. You could use any of these in the class to create additional management products. The case studies include a set of management products they vary in their project size, industry and perspective. We are sure you will find the reading interesting and informative. The following are samples of case studies included:
- Central Department of Health
- A sample Communication Management Strategy is provided that outlines the creation of a CD project to convey a set of key messages that relate to health for young people.
- Health and well being council in a developing country
- A Quality Management Strategy, Project Product Description, Quality Register and Product Description are demonstrated with this project to conduct a Health Education Campaign in a developing country.
- Lawyer firm's HR legislation compliance project
- To plan for a learning skills database required by recently introduced legislation a Project Brief, Project Initiation Document, Project Plan and Daily Log has been created.
- Marking and Sales departments, moving offices
- To manage the risk associated with the office move a Risk Management Strategy and Risk Register have been created, identifying the risk associated with the financing of a lease required for the move.
- Marketing a competition that goes sour
- Promoting coffee machines should be easy; offer a free airline ticket that is not even covered by the costs of the purchase and you have a disaster waiting to happen.
- Financial services implement the "complete online loans application service" as a way to increase business
- Documentation includes the Configuration Management Strategy, a Configuration Item Record, a Product Status Account, and Issue Register (about fridge magnets) and an Issue Report (the fridge magnets are too small!)
- Construction / Mining
- an open cut mine needs a temporary township developed, for 3,500 people :This is conveyed as a Work Package, the team manager reports via a Checkpoint Report and the project manager via a Highlight Report. At the conclusion of the project a Lessons Report is compiled from the Lessons Log, which is also included.
- Construction of a $4.6 million home
- Constructing dream home right next to a cliff face seemed like a good idea until the storm which brought with it 4 days of torrential rain. The End Stage Report (also included) paints a nice picture, the Exception Report shortly afterwards then tells a different story. The End Project Report concludes the impact of the disaster.

So what is wrong with printed slides as training materials?
- Slides should not be used as course materials. Best practise (and experience) says that with minor exceptions each slide should have no more than 7 bullet points, with single lines of text, by just summarising what is in the workbook this can be done.
- Making course materials just the print out of slides has the effect of appearing cluttered with too much information or scant with too little information as student notes when revising. To revise after a course with just slides requires a trainer to interpret each short phrase and diagram.
- The trainer should focus on the delivery of materials and not the content. The most appropriate way to create training materials is to separate the slides from the text being referenced by the student.
- Some comments heard from students of course materials created from slides include:
- “There were too many slides”
- “The trainer missed some of the slides scheduled to be delivered.”
- “I could not read the diagram - it was too small on the printed work notes.”
- “There was too much text on the screen, I could not read the 20+ bullet points and 10 point font.”
- Advantages include:
- Fewer slides: as detail can be left for the workbook only key points need to be covered in the slides: resulting in less slides
- If a topic has been covered it may be appropriate to skip a slide – students are less aware that a slide has been 'missed' and less concern is felt by the group, while not losing any learning time
- Slides can be updated quickly and do not have to wait for course materials development and shipping of printed workbooks
- Slides can be full colour while the workbook does not
- More time for exercises and activities: learn by doing; detail can be left for homework or pre-course reading rather than slides which will cover key points
- Students have detailed information in the workbook: the slides are then used to highlight the key points, not the detail.

We will work with you to help crease a plan to manage the transition, we can supply trainers to help train your staff on the new PRINCE2 version. Please start planning early. We provide you with an estimate to customise the materials and to ensure delegates are not disrupted with the change.
- ^ Top
How will you help me transition to the new materials?
We can provide trainer training to ensure that your trainers are familiar with the material, this will be designed to include the APMG's familiarisation efforts – immediately accrediting your existing PRINCE2 accredited trainers. This is also an opportunity to ask questions and provide input into further development.
- ^ Top
What about my existing materials they are really good!
If you have existing materials; booklets, hand outs or reference cards that you wish to use then you can use this along side our other materials. Additional materials will need to be accredited by the APMG separately.
- ^ Top
Is the PRINCE2 manual mandatory for delivery?
The materials are being created on the basis that the PRINCE2 manual is optional, but highly recommended for those sitting the Practitioner exam.
- ^ Top
We prefer a course-length single scenario
ATOs can add their own scenarios if they wish to match the sector or industry they are delivering the training. This will need to be assessed by the APMG separately.
- ^ Top
Will your Foundation materials include just the Foundation syllabus?
The Foundation course workbook includes both the Foundation and Practitioner syllabus points.
- ^ Top
Is what you are offering cheaper?
Perhaps - it depends on your current costs. Talk to us about your current costs and we will create an offer that should be attractive!

Adherence to APMG new surveillance activities
All changes will be tracked via out existing issue management system which can produce a report for APMG clearly indicating which changes have been made between workbook versions. All copies will be version controlled, with CC Learning taking all configuration responsibilities.
- ^ Top
What continuous improvement activities will you carry out?
Through the gathering of exam results we will track which topics require additional work, targeting the lowest three performing topics each quarter. These improvements will be incorporated into our 6-monthly updates. Our tentative aim is to consistently beat the industry average in pass rates for 75% of all syllabus topics over a 3 months period.
